  • ATTACK OF THE MYSTERY MELON WEED!

    September 8, 2010

A few months ago we noticed out by our air conditioner that there was a mysterious plant growing through our bushes and around our A/C unit. Kendra took the time one day to pull it out and we thought that was the end of it…nope. It grew back and now we are in awe at just how fast this mystery plant grows! It was growing along our back door and within 2 or 3 days it seemed to grow another foot and now it’s well, turning into something from a classic B-movie!

(Yes, we have a drinking fountain. 🙂 ) As you can see, the plant seems to have devoured our pooper scooper and is heading north up the concrete to possibly strangle the nearest sprinkler head. We were planning on pulling it up again but we ended up leaving it alone because we are curious as to how gigantic it is going to get and whether or not it will start singing musical theater and wanting to eat people in our neighborhood (in particular, our dentist). Like this guy ->

Do any of you know what kind of plant this is?

  • “Same Shirt, Different Day”

    August 6, 2010

To this day, this is one of my favorite family portraits I’ve ever taken.

This was printed on a 30×40 canvas in a beautiful black frame. They also used it for their Christmas cards. On the cards they wrote, “Same shirt, different day.” 🙂 I thought it was a fun idea!

These 6 kids were some of the nicest I’ve ever met. When the session was over, they all offered to help me clean up! I was very impressed. This portrait s actually a composite image. They were all in the same photograph, yes, but I had to switch a few faces, heads and even entire bodies. The little girl on the left I traded out her face with an image where she was hugging onto her mother’s arm. The face of the little boy in the front was changed and the boy laying on his stomach on the right was swapped into this portrait because in the original, he was laying on his back. We photographers are always chasing after the “perfect portrait” and swapping faces, heads, arms, etc. is just one of the many tools we now use to get closer to that “perfect portrait.”

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  • Happy 4th of July!

    July 7, 2010

Hope you all had a great holiday! Kendra and I visited my dad up in a little town called New Harmony, Utah. We had a great time!

  • A night at the inn…

    June 15, 2010

This passed weekend, Kendra and I went up to St. George, Utah to attend a family reunion. I won’t say much about that other than it isn’t much different than any of your family reunions; food, talking, food then goodbyes. What I do want to talk about is my stay at the hotel. I’m not about to plug the Holiday Inn or anything. I just noticed something…something rather strange. What is it you ask? Well, proceed 3 lines down to find out!

Welcome back! Ok, so what I noticed about being in a hotel is that every single time I stay in a hotel, I always end up watching these three things on TV.

    1) A Dennis Quaid movie.

It doesn’t matter which one I watch because there’s always 3 selections to choose from and they’ll play multiple times during the night.

    2) A pastor of some sort.

Now, I have my own faith but for some reason if there’s a pastor on tv and I’m in a hotel, I will devote at least 15 minutes to listen to what they are selling. This weekend, I listened to a pastor try to sell me faith for $1,000.

    3) Workout DVDs.I seem to always be eating pizza, burger or a bottle of high fructose corn syrup whenever I’m in a hotel and lo and behold I ingest a good 30 minutes to 22 hours worth of workout advertisements. Be it the P90X, Insanity workout, Brazil Butt Lift or a machine that not even the most health conscious supermodels look good doing. Maybe I’m just jealous… sigh.

  • Windy won’t you go away?

    May 28, 2010

It’s a very busy and fun month! Last Saturday I photographed a young couple’s wedding day portraits. I can’t help but feel a little old in comparison. It’s been amazingly windy the passed few moths in Vegas and lo and behold it was quite windy on their special day too but we made the most of it. Here are a few from the day…

And just for fun, here’s a little project I did for my friend/2nd mom/Mary Poppins fan Wendy who designed her own cookbook of her favorite cookie recipes to give to her family. She had me design the cover for her and this is what we came up with.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go write my 6th grade English teacher a letter explaining why I began my previous sentence with the word “and”. Thanks everyone!

  • Peyton is 1!

    April 20, 2010

I’ve been photographing these two their whole lives. Lorelai and Peyton are always fun to photograph and I guess being photographed by me is now built into their subconscious because they always cooperate. Here’s a quick little video I made of my favorites from the session. Enjoy!

  • Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh that’s better…

    April 2, 2010

Kendra and I had 2 11×14 portraits made of our parents and hung them on both sides of the 16×20 of us. Kendra then took some decals and completed the ensemble. Our big wall now looks so much nicer.

The letters are a little crooked here and there but stop bugging us about it! We’ll fix it! 🙂

Hope everyone is having a good week! We have some cool promotions coming in April so stay tuned on the blog and the Facebook page and your e-mails!

  • Wall Spacey

    March 13, 2010

I recently printed and framed a 16×20 print of Kendra and I. Our intention was to hang it in the bedroom where the wall space would suit it better. On Friday, Kendra came home before I was about to hang the portrait.

“Where do you want it?” I asked even though in my head I had somewhere in mind.

“There!” She pointed above the hutch in our living room.

    Here’s how it looks…

Don’t worry, our intention is to hang a few other photos around it to fill up the space but this is a perfect example of why the size of the wall dictates how large you should print your portraits. If we weren’tgoing to print additional portraits to hang around this one, I would much rather this space to be occupied by a 24×30 or larger… to answer your question, yes, I AM that into looking at myself. 🙂

Here’s Kendra relaxing after work, spreading the good word about the new portrait. 🙂

Our dog, Ralf looking rather paranoid.  🙂

    Happy St. Patrick’s Day everybody!
