• BIG ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE END OF THIS POST!

    March 3, 2011

Hey, everyone! Normally after Christmas is over, January and February for photographers is the slowest time of the year. NOT TRUE FOR US! We’re as busy as ever and loving every minute of it It’s such a great thing to be a photographer. I really love it. It’s such a blessing creating artwork for such great people to enjoy! I’m so glad I enjoy my career. I can remember when I was younger my dad stressed the importance of becoming educated and finding work that was enjoyable to me. He was a meat cutter his whole life and worked very hard for us. He used to tell me, “You don’t want to be a meat cutter. Find something you like to do.” I’m so glad I listened (for once 🙂 )to the man! My mother was a first grade teacher and found quite a bit of fulfillment in her work. I’m really happy I had parents who would push me.

With high school senior portrait season coming soon, I figured I would showcase a few of my favorite senior portrait memoriez. Enjoy!

    1) I wanted to create a fun, laid back image that said a lot about this girl’s personality. It turns out she loves her Ipod and the Harry Potter series. I suggested doing something different in the style of the Brady Bunch opening and she said it sounded like fun. The results made for a fun, colorful portrait collage that is strictly unique to her! It was fun from beginning to end!

    2) This senior had a really cool truck! He was very proud of his vehicle (I would be too!) and we did a few more standard images with him next to his truck but later on I said to him, “Let’s do something cool,” and we came up with this. He was pretty uncomfortable in this pose but we were both very happy with the final product!

    3) This senior is as nice as they come but when we found this spot we had to get something a little more edgy with his guitar. It was his favorite portrait from the whole session if I remember correctly.

    4) This was a fun session! We laughed it up the whole time! Seconds after this more serious portrait was created, this young man couldn’t help but laugh after I told him to show me his best Zoolander look. He said, “I gave you blue steel!” With that in mind, I added a slightly cool/blue look to the portrait. We laughed and named the portrait “BLUE STEEL.” Great senior! I later photographed his family portrait a few months later.

    5) This senior wanted something a little more bold and punchy. The beauty of photography is you get to show the world only what you want it to see. This blue wall was actually the doorway to a restaurant’s dumpster! It’s important to trust your photographer! 🙂

    6) This young lady was one of the nicest, happiest girls you could ever want to meet! I love when I meet people who are excited to work with me!

    7) This girl had a very quick wit. She definitely gave me a run for my money! It was a very fun session. Lots of laughs, lots of great images and the time just flew by. One thing I remember is that she was extremely responsible and caring because a few weeks after this session she moved across the country to take care of her grandma. I was very impressed by her character.

Ok, I promised you a big announcement and here it is: TNGphoto.com is going to have a sister website devoted to high school seniors! More info to come!

I’m loving how busy things are at this time of year! In fact, I just love this time of year in general. I love how everyone is so happy and helpful, the lights, the decorations, the music…well, maybe not all the music. I think a lot of Christmas songs are a little, well, corny. One of my least favorite is “The Little Drummer Boy.” We could gather together the world’s greatest minds and not one of them would be able to tell us what the heck  “Bah-rum-pum-pum-pum” means. Anyway, I was in line at the store the other day and as I was waiting I heard this very song coming from their store’s speakers. It ended up being Bob Seger’s version of the song and I must say, he reaaaaaaally gets into it! hahaha Check it out here when you get a chance.

What do I really love though? Christmas portraits! Here are a few fun ones of some great kids! Enjoy!

Here are a few portraits of 8 year old Ava. Ava is about to be baptized so her mom wanted me to photograph her to commemorate the event. I had a great time with this little girl. She has such  great personality! She started to speak in a Britishesque accent so I played with her and said in my own (terrible) British accent, “Oh are you from Yorkshire?” and without skipping a beat she kept the joke running and we started having a funny discussion in our (again, terrible) British accents. Ava has quite the wit!

    Congratulations, Ava!

  • Quite the challenge…

    November 15, 2010

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I was super busy taking a lot of great portraits of some great clients! One of which was this great family. This was quite a challenging session. Why? Well I’ll tell you. Gather around, folks and I’ll tell you a tale. It is a tale, a tale of a man and a monster! Whoops! Sorry about that, I’m listening to the first song from Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame on Itunes! Where was I? Oh yes! The challenge of this session was simply that it was taken in the dark! I had to shine my flashlight on their faces to give me something to focus on and then coax their silhouettes for expressions. Luckily, I had great subjects! This was my favorite portrait from the session. Enjoy!

I have to say that I have a lot of great clients. I updated this family’s portrait a few days ago. I can’t ask for a better group of people to work with!  They were so much fun and I love when they have me back for their portrait needs. I’ve photographed eagle scouts and senior portraits for them in the past and now I’m so glad to create their new family portrait for them! Stay tuned for more!

  • FAMILY PORTRAIT SURVIVAL GUIDE

    September 30, 2010

October will be here tomorrow and that means we’re getting into the holidays. This is a busy time of year for Las Vegas family photographers and it can be quite a stressful time for those getting their portrait taken. That’s why this post I’m dedicating to surviving your family portrait!

HAVE FUN! Breathe, relax, and have fun! These portraits aren’t going to be  your run of the mill, factory pictures that so many of us have had in the past. These portraits are going to make you look great! The experience will be a great time for you all and these images are made to convey your family’s unique personality.

CLOTHES: When you call and discuss your family portraits we are going to discuss clothing options. Clothing is extremely important for a number of reasons:

    • Clothes can either make you look 10 pounds lighter or 10 pounds heavier. Darker clothing helps you look thinner and lighter clothing can do the opposite.
    • Your clothing choice you choose will help ensure the timeless quality of your portrait. I always want my portraits to be looked at 50 years from now and when someone looks at it they can say, “Wow! This looks like it was taken yesterday!”  It is highly recommended that you avoid distracting patterns. Although they look great in person the patterns will draw attention away from the faces of the subjects in your family portrait. Lastly, it is not required that you all match but it is important to keep your clothing the same overall tonality. Earth tones work best to not distract from faces and keep your skin tone looking beautiful. Your images will be amazing with the right clothing choices. Here is a quick example on how clothes can distract from faces:

Notice how the one distracting shirt color can take all of your attention instantly away from the faces!

    • LOCATION: Is there a location that has special meaning to you and your family? Having your portrait taken in a location that is unique to your family will help make the artwork even more special for you to enjoy. Wherever it will be, we will have fun!
    • TIME: There is no need to rush your portraits. A session will typically last 45-60 minutes. I am definitely a quality over quantity portrait artist. I want everyone to look great in their images. We will have time to photograph the entire group and breakdowns of couples, kids, individuals during the session.
    • CHRISTMAS CARDS: We have a beautiful selection of Christmas cards to choose from and we can also create something custom for you! It is vitally important to get these ordered as soon as possible to ensure you will receive them before Christmas. After December 10th there is no guarantee that you will have the cards before Christmas unless a rush charge is added to your order. The early bird gets the worm so please do not put this off.
    • SELECTION: Two things will happen when you schedule your family portrait session with TNG Photography. #1 Your session date will be scheduled and #2 Your viewing appointment will be scheduled. The viewing will take place at least 3 days after your session and your images will be viewed in the comfort of your home. The process is fun, enjoyable and easy! Here we will look at the color palette of your home’s decor and discuss the best sizing and framing options for where your portrait will be displayed.
    • WHAT DO I DO NEXT? Call TNG Photography at 809-9763 and schedule your family portrait session! I look forward to speaking with you soon!

Psst! Mention this blog post and your session fee will go towards your portrait order!
